Baab Korean pt 2 – another 52HKD meal :)

Another day of carb cravings…

Vibrant colors.. photographed well but it lacked in taste/depth and I had to ask for gochujang.
But then, the hot stone pot was piping hot and made the outer layer of rice perfectly crispy and I ended up scarfing most

of it up by the end of it all.

The beef on top was probably the cheapest cut of meat you could ever get your hands on… terribly chewy with strings of ligaments… haha but oh well! can’t let the animal die in vein.. gochiso-sama deshita. 🙂

Baab Korean Casual Dining

On a -could become funky street in 5 years- where Bo Innovation and Ships 22 lies a casual Korean resto..

Not the most authentic ingredients or flavors (hence not a single Korean person in sight!)

its still perfect for those bibimbap cravings (especially after boozy nights) and since its 3mins from my office… it makes do.

Lunch set vermicelli noodles and meat/veg mix .. 50HKD? cheap as chips mate..

最近オフィスがセントラルからワンチャイに引っ越しました。。。

日本の例えで言うと、大手町から歌舞伎町の風俗街に移るような結構最悪な移転先なのですが、

まー家賃が安いのであろう。。 (-_-;;)

てことで、今まではお昼は洋食のチョイスがほとんどだったのが、ここは本当にローカルエリアになるので、

ランチのチョイスが変な感じに変わりました。

最近週に一回ぐらいは交代で外ランチができるようになり、せっかくなので、お昼に食べたお料理を紹介したいと思います!

 

まずは今日のランチ ベトナム料理 Dalat

定番のフォーから (500円ぐらい)

中にこういうのが入っているのはやっぱり中国式、、、、、 味はコンソメみたいなだしで美味しくない。。。。

Cha Siu

many restaurants here in HK are tasty…. but there will come a time when you will question cleanliness of the preparation and even the origin of the meat..  like hmmm this meat doesn’t resemble pork, beef OR chicken… what is this……..

even the best tea soaking table-side dish washing will still commonly trigger a bowel irritation and/or lack of appetite for days due to usage of old oil etc… scary stuff… I’ve learned my lesson after many trial and errors that my Japanese/Western stomach will never adapt to HK/Chinese street side cooking

so far the best non dodgey restaurant cha siu I’ve come across  was @ Island Tang

weekend dimsum with ivory-esque chopsticks and lovely service (not the dish throwing, tea splashing you would get anywhere else) definitely check it out!

いくら築地直送だったとしても、、、何時間の時差でしょう?

少々生臭い。。。

トロも筋がいっぱいでこれひとつ。。

うにもいくらも、特に特別な何かを感じることもなく。

いくらは、、、もしや人工いくら、、、???

これだけで1万円もしてしまいました。 腹6ぶんめ、、たっけーーーー!

やはり香港で鮨に期待をかけたのは間違いでした。。 今度日本で食べますわ♪

Lawrys Prime Rib

I absolutely love this place…

Even though my blood type tells me a vegan diet is best to suit, I have a massively weak spot for a good chunk of perfectly grilled meat…

With celeb chef striphouses popping up everywhere, you would think it wouldn’t be so hard to find the perfect one. Don’t get me wrong, there’s decent talent in HK but the issue is always lack of consistency. The same dish on a another day can be the difference between heaven and eating sand.
I swear the quality curve heightens with openings, but once the customers flow, confidence kicks in along with laziness and lack of control which is then combined with shyte clueless service.. and me never to return!

Too many times I’ve ordered a premium piece of meat – medium rare, only to receive it still alive , it gets sent back and returned 5mins later scorched to coal by a truly heartless blowtorch gig.

Like, really?  did you mofos just microwave this??
Total disrespect to the moo cow, the customer, the restaurant and the hard dollars I work my azz off for to pay for it..

anyway, prime rib at Lawry’s is one exclusion… sure, they are a franchise and the uniforms and service can be a little cheesy but they sure know what they are famous for and they do it right every time…
Amex plat card gives you a whopping 50% off the a la carte menu. Can’t go wrong with that!
